Would
you believe it if we told you that there could exist a digital twin of yourself
in the internet that informed us of your live performance in real time? Well
players such as IBM, Samsonite and other industry developers are developing
this idea not yet for humans but for IOT devices. This is called Digital Twin
Technology.
Digital twins are virtual representations of the parts and kinetics
of an internet of things (IOT) device. In other words this technology is used
to analyze and understand in real time how an IOT device works through its
lifecycle. (A perfect example of an IOT device is a car that is connected to
the internet). This real time information helps the manufacturer better with
the design and fabrication of the physical device. Granting companies access to
real time analytics through the digital twin, it helps developers analyze how a
physical twin is performing in different industry conditions. With this
analysis, developers are able to make disruptive changes in the device’s
design, building process, and operation. Using cognitive insights of the
information recollected, manufactures are able to operate, ideate and realize
changes to the physical twin. Finally leading to better customer intimacy and
design innovation that increases the device’s functioning.
Jet
Engine technology is a perfect example of a manufactured good that is advancing
at a rapid pace due to Digital Twin Technology. Using the virtual
representation of the physical engine, developers are able to illustrate how
the design and building components are responding to different weather and use
conditions. Analyzing the data from the physical twin, analysts are able to
ideate generative designs that lead to a better performance and development of
the IOT device. Finally, gaining a yield in the realization of the product.
In our future posts the team will be showing you
how Digital Twins are innovating and revolutionizing industries giving you
concrete examples of how they are occurring in multiple industries. We are
really taking you to the vanguard of this technology.
